I’ve always had no interest in the idea of ‘Feminism’. I quickly associated it with women choosing not to have kids because they believed it was forced upon them and of corse that notorious action of bra burning. I have nothing againist feminism, i just didn’t see how it applied to me.

Now today as i sat in my Fashion, Gender& Identity lecture, half falling asleep, the pen scribbling into unreadable moosh.. i heard the fact that Feminism argued for the return of the natural body..I sat up straight, now attentive.

The feminist movement strongly believed in the acceptance of how one is, not altering oneself through cosmetics, dress (bra, girdle), plastic surgery etc.

I completely support that.

I think that such a belief is more relevant now than it ever has been with padded, underwire bras being sold to 10year olds, Miss plastic surgery pageants and even just those little things which have become second nature to a large amount of people..getting our eyelashes tinted, acrylic nails, wearing that belt that clenches in tightly to emphasise our waist, and again not that i am in anyway disapproving of those who do these things, i have been at one stage all of the above.

Has anyone every looked at themselves in the mirror and thought how much of what i am, physically is real?

It’s pretty alarming.
