The lecture was a quick yet informative introduction to the subject.
The pointing out of keywords such as; Tie in, Product placement and spin off allow me to see a direct link in HOLLYWOOD and its resulting consumerism. As a matter of fact i found that the visuals gave me the greatest understanding of consumerism in terms of clothing fashion as a desire, an emotional pleasure, a dream. Its allows people to play a role that without it, they may not be able to play.
Such a relevant idea for old and modern day cinema. I did however notice the lack of any male subject visuals but i'm assuming the idea of a male star took a while to come into place. Consumerism was after all firstly aimed at women.
Essay ideas; Helena Bonham Carter. On screen persona, their quirkiness- matches her off screen persona. Interesting. Just loosely, I remember doing a reading on superhero costumes and the idea of symbolism and concealing ones identity. Lastly, I've always loved Tennessee Williams, A Street Car Named Desire. Classic, and who doesn't enjoy seeing Marlon Brando in his prime. Preferably removed of most of his clothing.
